Read below about what one of our almuni is up to now!
"My name is Miles Guzman, I was born and raised in Fayetteville, NC. I decided to go to Appalachian State in 2012 where I learned to love physics, mountains and the outdoors. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Physics from Appalachian State in May of 2016 and enlisted in January of 2017 as a 68W Combat Medic in the United States Army. My Basic Training was at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and I became a medic at Fort Sam Houston, Texas right outside San Antonio from April to July of that same year. I was lucky to be posted to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4 TH Infantry Division Artillery at Fort Carson Colorado as my first duty station. Since I’ve been here at Colorado, I’ve summited two fourteen thousand foot mountains, Pike’s and Grey’s Peaks, several Thirteeners, and completed the Colorado Springs Marathon. I’ve also picked up backpacking and rock and ice climbing in my free time and have been working in Primary Care under several awesome Physician’s Assistants at DiRaimondo Support Clinic. I’ve also attended Brigade Combat Team Trauma Training here in Colorado and Basic Military Mountaineering at Camp Ethan Allen in Vermont. At the mountain school an avalanche swept some Soldiers away on Smuggler’s Notch, so several classmates and I aided the mountaineering instructors in evacuating them from the mountain and administering trauma treatment to the casualties. I earned the rank of Sergeant in less than two years and am incredibly proud of this accomplishment. Most recently, just last week, I was accepted to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs for Pre-Medicine and am extremely excited to get back to school!"
